The British woman Emma Kelty was murdered during a solo kayaking expedition in the Brazilian Amazon and now three people have been arrested in her murder case. She is 43-year-old and last time her voice is heard on 13th of September. Before her disappearance, Emma Kelty tweeted her fears of being raided or killed. She tweeted that she has fear of her life during her 4, 000-mile trip. And she tweeted this some days before she has been killed.
The head of the Amazonas state homicide division Mr. Ivo Martins, told the Associated Press that three people were in custody. The sad news and information he gave are that he said that Ms. Emma was robbed first and then killed and her body was thrown in the Solimoes River.
Mr. Martin also said that one of the arrested people who is teenager admitted the killing of Emma along with six other people.
The last known location of Ms. Emma Kelty was between the town of Coari and Codajas which is about 150 miles west of the jungle city of Manaus.
The Brazilian navy reportedly found some of her belongings on Friday, including her kayak.
Ms. Emma Kelty family said in a statement that she was “dearly loved by us all and her strength will be sorely missed.”
The information which is given by the local reporters is that the stretch of river which she had been trying to travel on is a known route for robbers and drug traffickers.
Ms. Kelty was 42 days into her trip when she went missing, and she had posted about passing boats full of men with arrows and rifles.
“We are supporting the family of a British woman following her death in Brazil and are in contact with the Brazilian authorities,” said by a Foreign Office spokesman.
Another adventurer Olie Hunter Smart has also completed the similar route in the year 2015 which Emma was exploring. Olie said that Coari was an area famous for its danger and he had met Emma and try to help her plan the journey.
He said about Emma: “The Emma that I met was an incredibly brave and courageous person who lived life to the full. My thoughts go out to her close friends and family at this very sad time.”
